Inspiration for this shoot came from the Pacific Northwest, a post-grunge wasteland. Using disparate styles and fashions against one another to emphasis the counterpoint of individuality, we wanted this photo set to conjure up elements of a small town girl, bored and dreaming of a busier, more frenetic pace of life.Expression through confinement, creativity through boredom. We deliberately went for minimal styling and make up, lending a more disposable camera aesthetic, stark lighting and no props added to a sense of someone being caught perfectly in the moment. No hype, no farce, no pretence.
“Boxer” by Gareth Gregg
This sports editorial shoot uses the compliments of a strong, masculine styling with the crisp minimalism of black and white 35mm film. Stark composition and a lack of props adds to the brooding intensity of the concept of an athlete in focus. Full shoot is available HERE.
Taking inspiration from both the high seas and the high street, photographer Gareth Gregg, Zoe Van Spyk and WE ARE WATER collaborated on a series of looks, celebrating vintage nautical chic vibes and modernist style sensibilities. Using gentle silhouettes that seem to ebb and flow like the tide, coupled with the familiarity of leisurewear staples, the shoot echoed both the classic and the contemporary. Statement nautical prints marry with bold stripes, applique flags and marina soiree knits to bring both a timeless class and youthful playfulness. The use of the stark indoor space and minimal set dressing allows the statement colours to find their own space within the shots, at times almost creating a horizon line through the use of fashion. The use of an aquatic palette, particularly towards the bottom of frame, adds a sense of the seas, the subject mirroring the subject matter and concept.
